Committee Descriptions

5th Grade Celebration

This committee will help plan and host our first 5th Grade Promotion and Celebration in June.

Book Fair

Chairs will manage these large and highly anticipated events. There will be three book fairs held for the 2014-2015 school year. Committee members and volunteers will help with planning, set-up, working, and breakdown of the events. This is mainly a daytime event with one or two evening events planned. Hours for volunteers vary greatly depending on availability. To meet all the time commitments many volunteers are needed.

After School Enrichment Programs

This is a PTA Board position. Responsible for managing the advertisement, registration and notification process of our teacher sponsored after school programs. Will also work with outside vendors, selecting appropriate and varied classes for our students to be able to take advantage of at Wims during after school hours.

Box Tops

Publicize Box Top program and coordinate the collection and redemption of Box Tops, and plan and implement at least one contest per school year to encourage participation. Additional volunteers (including MS & HS students for SSL hours) may be needed to help with the counting of box tops.

Box Community Outreach

This committee is dedicated to looking for ways to serve those families and individuals who are in need. Will work with Wims SGA to plan and implement service projects for students to participate in.

Cultural Arts Assembles

Responsible for planning and facilitating day and evening cultural arts performances. Programs are selected and scheduled during late summer/early in the school year by the committee coordinator with approval by the PTA Board and Principal. Committee volunteers may be asked to help with copying and distribution of associated fliers as well as processing event registrations.

Donuts with Dads

A two morning event held during the school year. “Dads” and their children are invited to come into school before the school day and enjoy breakfast together. Chair will work with committee members will help plan, advertise, purchase items for, and run this event.

Holiday Extravaganza

The Make-N-Take is a highly anticipated annual holiday crafting event. Committee members will select and prepare age appropriate craft projects for students to make. Chosen vendors may also have holiday items on display for sale. Many committee members are needed to support this event.

International Night

Responsible for planning and executing a community event. Event is designed to showcase and celebrate the many cultures represented within our school community.

MCCPTA Delegates

This is a PTA Board position. Attend Delegates’ Assemblies held every month during the school year (see http://www.mccpta.com for more information). Serve as a link between the PTA council and the local PTA. Share information about what is happening across the school system with the members of the PTA. Bring the perspective of the PTA members to the discussions at the county level.

Membership/Directory

This is a PTA board position. The membership chairs will accept membership applications and payment, process applications, and distribute membership cards. Committee members shall man the membership table at PTA meetings various school events, create school directory and work to increase membership in our PTA.

Munchkins with Moms

Munchkins with Moms is a two morning event held during the school year. “Moms” and their children are invited to come into school before the school day and enjoy breakfast together. Chair will work with committee members to help plan, advertise, purchase items for, and run this event.

Reflections

Reflections is a national program aimed at celebrating various medias of art created by school age children. The Reflections program is run with guidelines provided by the county and National PTA. Chair is responsible for administration of submissions and overseeing the selection process.

S.T.E.M Expo

This committee will work to create an evening dedicated to science. Students will create science experiments and will display and explain their work at this evening event.

School Beautification

The chair and the principal will work closely to plan projects that will most suit the needs of the school environment. Committee members participate in implementing annual improvements to the grounds of the school. Improvements may include small group or event based landscaping and clean-up projects.

Spirit Nights

Committee chair will work with local restaurants to plan occasions when Wims families can eat at that restaurant and Wims PTA will receive a percentage of the proceeds. Committee members will find restaurants, become familiar with their guidelines, plan, and advertise spirit nights.

Spirit Wear

This committee will be responsible for ordering and selling items with the school logo. The committee may choose to run a spirit wear event or simply have items available at various events.

Spring Carnival

Our Spring Carnival is a large event held in May. Committee members will help with set up, running carnival games and with clean up.

Staff Appreciation

This is a PTA board position. The Staff Appreciation Committee works throughout the year to show our staff how much we appreciate the hard work they do for our school and community. Parents may be solicited to volunteer time and/or food/items for various events.

Store Loyalty Programs

Chairs will work to promote participation in these programs through fliers, back to school night information table, and PTA/school newsletter notices.

Variety Show

Responsibilities include advertising, holding auditions, and dress rehearsal. Responsible for coordinating all aspects of the variety show, music, space, tickets.

Volunteer Coordinator

Tracks and enters all PTA volunteer hours and reports to the MCCPTA online.

Webmaster

This is a PTA Board position. Manages the website for Wims PTA. The webmaster will work closely with the newsletter editor and the PTA board to keep items on the webpage current and accurate.

Wellness Committee

This committee will work closely with staff, students, parents, and community members to promote an environment that encourages wellness, proper nutrition, nutrition education, and increased physical activity in order to promote and improve student health and achievement.

Yearbook

This committee will help gather pictures, design, and organize and pass out yearbooks.
